This is a picture of the Temple President's Home. It is located about a quarter of a mile east of the Temple on a small hill. There is an interesting story about this home. The man that owned the land that this home and the temple sits on was not a member. After much effort he agreed to sell the land to the church on one condition...they build him a home that he could live in until his death and then it would go to the church. This home was built on the hill just to the west of this picture. Pres. Hinckley visited the site (the temple had been started) and had the work stop. He said that the temple need to be built on the spot that this home sat (quarter of a mile to the west of it's present location). They picked this home up and moved it to it's present location. The temple was then started on the hill that the home was on. The strange thing is that the man passed away just weeks before the temple was to open...and the home has been used by the Temple President ever since.
Pres. Hinckley had a direct hand in the building of the temple. One thing that he changed from the first set of plans was to install a set of three clear windows on the west end of the entry hall. From those windows you can look directly into the Sacred Grove. Another legend that is told all around the church is that two trees blocked the view of the grove from the temple. People tell the story that Pres. Hinckley asked to have them cut down and was told that they couldn't. He is credited with saying, "Maybe they will die." A short time later they were gone. The real story is that the non-member man who takes care of the grove, Bob Parrot, took his chain saw and cut them down. He said that an ice storm hit the area and the trees were about to break and he just helped them a little bit. Don't believe everything you hear people say.
